February 2, 2016

I woke up today with a head cold and there was no way I could go into work. I let myself sleep in until 10:00 a.m., which is crazy late for me, even on weekends I'm out of bed by 8:30. I couldn't help myself and I did check my work email just to see if I was missing anything super important. After I made a few eggs over easy for breakfast and had a cup of tea I crawled back into bed to binge watch Vanderpump Rules and nap.

My parents bought me the cutest adult coloring book for Christmas this year and I finally got to crack it open. I know that these have recently become really popular and several studies suggest that they are therapeutic for adults.

The Confessions of a Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella is one of my favorites and I LOVE the movie version of the first book as well. These are such a fun and easy read. The main character, Rebecca Brandon, is hilarious, adventurous, and always puts her friends in a good mood. I do get secondhand embarrassment a lot when I read the crazy ways she responds to every day situations, but she's a really relatable character.

I got the most recent book from the series (#8) and I put a huge dent in it today. This month I also got The One and Only by Emily Giffin on CD and I've been listening to it on my commute every day.

Lastly, sick days at home are meant for being comfy, even for a girl obsessed with makeup like me. To freshen up I used the Simple brand face wipes. My skin is dry right now so to moisturize I finally used my tiny sample of the Dior Hydra Life moisturizer. I was really impressed, but I highly doubt I'll be spending $60 to buy the full version anytime soon. I also used my mint flavored EOS lip balm and snowflurries hand lotion from Bath and Body works.

P.S. Check out my about me page! I finally updated it.

Pretty, Witty, & Gracious.:

I'm so in love with the formula of the la creme drenched lip sticks from Too Faced. The shade jelly bean is a gorgeous rasberry red, and I always get a compliment when I wear it. I don't like the color too opaque so to apply I just lightly dab it on my lips and blend with my fingers as necessary.

 2. YVES SAINT LAURENT | BLACK OPIUM
The notes in this perfume are coffee, jasmine, and vanilla. I usually wear Ralph Lauren Romance during the day which has similar notes, but Black Opium is a great nighttime version that's still sweet but has a heavier scent for the evening. I first got a sample of this in the summer from an online Ulta order and I knew I had to add Black Opium to my collection.

3. SALLY HANSEN COMPLETE SALON MANICURE | ALL FIRED UP
I feel like OPI and Essie get credit for being the best nail polishes for longevity and variety of color, but I think the complete salon manicure formula from Sally Hansen deserves the top spot for nail polish. Each color has a built-in top coat so it's a full manicure in a bottle. Shades from this line only need 1-2 coats and don't chip for at least a week. This winter  bright red has been my go-to color.

4. NIGHT OF OLAY FIRMING CREAM
This is my holy grail product in the winter and there's no way I could live without it. This moisturizer never gets greasy but does a great job hydrating my skin. I use it morning and night after I wash my face. I can easily go through a tub in one month, but happily it's very affordable and worth every penny.

5. TRAPP HOME FRAGRANCE MIST | SEXY CINNAMON
Trapp is still my favorite brand for candles but I recently just got a bottle of the room spray as a gift and I'm in love with the sexy cinnamon scent. It doesn't smell like the holidays or baking, but it's truly a light and clean fragrance with just a touch a cinnamon. I love spraying this over my bed at night before I fall asleep because it's luxurious and relaxing.

First Monday of 2016

Well, it's 2016 and monday's still suck.  Being the forever procrastinator that I am I still don't know what my new years resolution is but I'm going to make a list of my top dreams and goals and share that on my blog as soon as it's ready! Until then, I found this image on Pinterest from www.theyallhateus.com to keep me motivated. Be sure to follow me if you aren't already!

My Review

When I first heard of Dollar Shave Club I thought it was an odd gimmick that wouldn't last, but the hilarious ad won me over and I initially liked the brand even though I didn't buy the product. After both my dad and a friend told me that they really liked their subscriptions I thought I would see what they had to offer to women.

Dollar Shave Club offers three options for blades that range between $1 and $9 per monthly subscription. The 4X blade has 4 stainless steel blades and comes in a kit with 4 cartridges per month. It's described as a "member favorite - a gentle shave in a single stroke. You will love this razor - and your lover can use it too." So I opted to try it for $6 per month. This company has won me over for two reasons:

1. Quality
2. Price

I used to spend at least twice that amount on razors, and I honestly would use them for far too long because I didn't want to spend the money on repurchasing them. When I placed my first order the box came in less than a week and had blades, a handle, and a sample size of shave butter. The handle comes with your first order at no additional cost. I am very pleased with the quality that Dollar Shave Club offers and I highly recommend it! I did try the shave butter on my legs and although I usually like some masculine scents this was a little too much for me. I hope that more women will start using ordering from this company so they might invest in some products specifically for the ladies.

Let me know if you all try Dollar Shave Club!

I think most of my friends and family are obsessed with the Starbucks Christmas blend this time of the year, but for those who prefer something a little sweeter I would recommend the cinnamon dolce. It's got the perfect touch of cinnamon and  feels like a hug in a mug. FYI, it also goes great with a touch a pumpkin spice creamer.

I can't decide what I love about this lip gloss more: the pigment or the formula. It's a dream to apply because it's creamy and feels luxurious and the color pay-off is beautiful. For Christmas, my mom got me the double shot travel-sized duo which included the shades liar and anarchy. Liar is a neutral shade with a high shine and I love it for day or night. It's got a great twist to the shade that reminds me of the Kylie Jenner 90's lip but it's still practical enough to wear during the day. I haven't tried anarchy yet, which is a bright fuchsia but I'll let you know what I think about that as well!

When I first saw photos of this palette online I thought that I could live without it, but I was SO WRONG. This was another Christmas present from my parents and I cannot believe how in love I am with these shadows. Like all Urban Decay shadows these are very pigmented and a little product goes a long way. For every day, I like using a combination of stark and anaheim in my crease, and blonde as my brow and inner-corner highlight. During New Years I used those shades and added serious to my outer corner and pop on my lid. I can't wait to continue creating new looks with this versatile palette and I'll add photos soon!

4.  LC LAUREN CONRAD RUNWAY COLLECTION FAUX-SUEDE MOTO JACKET

The first time I saw this jacket online my jaw dropped. I love the rosey hue of the nude faux-suede and the rose gold hardware is gorgeous. It's been my go-to jacket this fall and winter and I feel like it goes with every outfit I have. Unfortunately, it's sold-out but I just had to include this in my favorites because I really do love it. For anyone who was lucky enough to pick up this jacket, I've already put it in the washer and dryer and the jacket came out looking good as new.

I wasn't ever interested in using a sponge or a beauty blender for my foundation until my roommate told me how much she liked the real techniques version. When I use this sponge damp it gives my skin an air-brushed finish and prevents product build up if I initially add too much on my face. I've never used the beauty blender but it's 3x the cost so I'm going to stick with the real techniques version for now.
